Are you a FINITE GAME or INFINITE GAME Player?

Here's what I mean.

A finite game is one where the players are known, the rules are agreed upon, and the goal of finite game players is to win.

An infinite game is one where the players change, so do the rules, and the goal here is to play the game as long as possible.

So when you think about it according to this definition, business is an Infinite game.

But here's where it gets interesting.

You see Business is an infinite game, yet both finite as well as infinite players play it. And as you can expect, their both ways of playing the game is very different.

So the results are as follows;

  • Finite game player plays to win. This means he would be constantly comparing himself to his competitors. Its the only way he measures his Progress.
  • However infinite player plays to stay in game for as long as possible. He constantly compares his performance with his past work. In other words, he is his own competitor.

What is your way of playing? How do you play your game?

The problem with the premise of an infinite game is having infinite access to the resources the game requires. No game requires nothing to play, and materials as we know them are necessarily finite. What perspectives there?

Materials for playing are finite but playing the game could happen in infinite ways. Eg We can play cricket with 100 different rules. You know what I mean!!🙂
