Vishal Srivastava .

Hello Pushstarters! Are there any freelancers in this community who have received payments from clients outside India?

What service do you use?

I tried PayPal but I am getting this message that cross-border transactions in INR are not allowed.

Any advice will be really helpful.

Change the currency type. I have added INR, US dollar, Canadian dollar and Australian

Vishal Srivastava

I changed the currency type and added INR, USD, and Euros. But in the invoice, I am getting the same error. I suppose I would need to convert the amount into Euros manually myself and then charge them accordingly.

Abhilasha Tiwari

Yes .. it will work, or else try Payoneer

Shubham Bajaj

Tell the sender to send in USD

Subro Dey

I have been using PayPal... Client pays in usd to my PayPal email

Vishal Srivastava

Thanks, Subro. While sending invoice, do you charge them in USD only then? And does that amount automatically get converted into INR by PayPal when I receive it?

Subro Dey

Yes, I bill in usd and PayPal does the needful. I finally receive in Inr

Vikram Solanky

I received payment from US and EU. For US payonner is good and for Eu use transfter wise

Preeti Singh Chauhan

Bring them to Upwork. It is going to be hassle free forever and Upwork won’t charge a penny from your client, you would have to pay 3.4% though.

I am using since so many years but have not received such type of message

Vishal Srivastava

I received it while creating invoice

How do you handle tax in India as a freelancer when you get payment from outside country?

Bala Krishnan

Mihir ES following .. I received some advise that I need to register for GST and all .. still thinking over that ! Do let me know if you get an answer for this

Vishal Srivastava

Even I'd be curious to know that. It is just my first small assignment on a trial basis. Haven't figured out the other intricacies yet. Would be great if someone experienced could give some insights into this.

If your annual income is more than 20 lacks you need to register for GST as an individual proprietorship

Mihir ES

What if you are an employee , working for freelance projects and your CTC > 20 lakh ?

Jimit Shah

If you are raising bills in any foreign currency even if you have a GST registration, you do not need to levy on tax.

Anuratti Vidyarrthi

Deepanshu Jain I hope their is no section or article that says anything about receiving international payments without GST..

Because of 20lakh annual income point, I have not got myself GST registered.

Mihir ES

Anuratti Vidyarrthi As a company GST is not required if you have IEC (import export code )

Anuratti Vidyarrthi

Mihir ES yes but that IEC is meant for good and not services

Mihir ES

Anuratti Vidyarrthi Please check again. As far as I know IEC is applicable for services like IT companies export software .

For US anytime would recommend transferwise .. great exchange rates and quick process .. Xoom works for first month up to like 4000 USD and then paperwork blah blah ..transferwise is more neat .

Geet Kiran Aneja

Ask for the money in USD or use Xoom which is also by PayPal to instantly get the sum in your bank account directly

Shitij Malhotra

1. For international payments there is no gst because you are exporting your services

2. Use payoneer to open a account, you get a us bank account number and money is transfered within 2-3 days. Your fees is 0.5 to 1.2 percent.
PayPal charges 5 percent

Vishal Srivastava

Oh I see. I didn't know this. Thanks for sharing Shitij. Does Payoneer work for Europe also?

Shitij Malhotra

yes. Most currencies of the world.

If you want I have a referal code which gives us both referal bonus.

Maitri Shah

Paypal and Transferwise. I have been using both and works fine for me. Try Transferwise as they give better transfer rates than Paypal

Manthan Koolwal

Use stripe

Anshul Bansal

Transferwise is much better than paypal in terms of receiving payments on time and with less fees.
